Overview

For our final regular meeting for 2016, we are pleased to host a talk by Christopher R. Friesen (PhD) from Shine Lab, “Sex and death in The Canadian Bush: the sex life of red-sided garter snakes”

During the months of April and May, the red-sided garter snakes of Manitoba, Canada form some of the largest aggregations of snakes on the planet. I have studied the reproductive ecology of these populations for the last 8 years and I will share some the stories about my most interesting findings about red-sided garter snakes and the plains garter snake. If you are lucky, I will present pictures of the resplendent male snake genitalia which may have evolved, in part, due to sexual conflict over mating or just to “hold on”.

This will be a fantastic talk to finish off the year & we look forward to seeing you all there on the night. Don’t forget we will have our regular raffle with some great prizes to win, & there’s a great opportunity to mingle while having some of the snacks/refreshments after the talk. Doors open 7pm.
